Transformer Monitoring: Seven Parameters, One Substation

Seven online monitoring devices that watch different failure mechanisms on the same transformer. They are usually bought one or two at a time, in the order the operator has been bitten: theft first, then gas, then partial discharge, then the slower thermal and mechanical indicators.

HF-T-601Theft and tamperingAnti-theft monitoring device for distribution transformers; see the product page for the sensor set and alarm chain.
HF-T-602Dissolved gas in oilNine gases (H2, CH4, C2H6, C2H4, C2H2, CO, CO2, O2, N2) plus moisture; IEC 61850, Modbus, Ethernet and RS485; IP66; −40 °C to +70 °C.
HF-T-603Partial dischargeAcoustic band 20 kHz–200 kHz with sensitivity ≥70 dB(V/(m/s)); used on HV/EHV, wind and solar booster, and industrial transformers.
HF-T-604Winding temperature−40 °C to +260 °C; ±0.5 °C with Pt100 and ±0.3 °C with fluorescent fibre; expandable from 3 to 64 channels for 10–500 kV transformers.
HF-T-605Core clamp earth currentCurrent 1 mA–10 A and voltage 1 V–300 V, accuracy ±(2 % of reading + 2 digits), with four adjustable compensation levels.
HF-T-608Bushing conditionTan δ from 0.001 to 0.3 at ±(1 % of reading + 0.001), capacitance 100–50 000 pF at ±(1 % + 1 pF), sampling every 5 minutes or faster.

Before you specify a set

  • Start from the failure mode you have actually seen. Gas analysis catches incipient overheating and arcing; partial discharge catches insulation defects; bushing monitoring catches the tan δ drift that precedes a bushing flashover. These are different failure paths, not different grades of the same product.
  • Bushing monitoring is the one most often left out. HF-T-608 tracks tan δ and capacitance continuously, which is the only way to see a bushing degrading between scheduled offline tests.
  • Check how the data leaves the transformer. HF-T-602 speaks IEC 61850, Modbus, Ethernet and RS485. Protocol support on the others is on each datasheet, and it is worth confirming before ordering rather than after.
  • Plan the channel count before the sensor count. HF-T-604 expands from 3 to 64 temperature channels and HF-T-609 supports up to 6 vibration channels per host — decide the final scope first, so the first purchase is not replaced by the second.

Common questions

Can these run on one transformer at the same time?
Yes. They are independent devices with their own sensors and their own communication, and they are normally mounted together in the same secondary cabinet.

Do they need modification to the transformer?
HF-T-609 is a 1U rackmount unit that installs inside the secondary control cabinet without modifying the main transformer, which makes it usable on retrofit projects.

How long does delivery take?
Standard models ship in 7–15 working days; configured or custom variants take 25–35 days.

Datasheets for each model are on the product pages and in the datasheets library. Test methods referenced in our guides follow the IEC and IEEE standards that apply to the quantity being measured.
