Ground Resistance Testers for Earthing Systems, Ground Grids and Lightning Protection

Twenty-one instruments for earthing work: ground resistance and soil resistivity measurement, substation ground grids, equipotential bonding, down-lead continuity, DC ground fault location, insulation resistance and the calibrator that keeps the rest honest.

What is in this section

  • Ground resistance and resistivity — the HF-GT-202 multifunction ground resistance tester measures 0.00 Ω–20.00 kΩ on the 2- and 3-wire methods at ±1.5 %rdg ±7 dgt with 0.01 Ω resolution, ground voltage 0.000–750.0 V and DC voltage 0.000–1000 V, running on an internal 11.1 V lithium battery specified for more than 1000 measurements at a 128 Hz sine test waveform. The HF-GT-201 ground resistance tester is specified for operating conditions of −10 °C to +40 °C at up to 80 % RH, an auxiliary ground resistance below 30 kΩ, interference voltage below 20 V and interference current below 2 A. The HF-GT-209 clamp-on ground resistance tester, HF-GT-210 earth resistance tester and HF-GT-218 soil resistivity tester cover the same ground from different directions.
  • Ground grids, bonding and continuity — the HF-GT-203 ground grid resistance testing system measures ground resistance, soil resistivity, step voltage and distributed potential from 0.030 Ω to 2000 Ω at ±2 %rdg ±5 dgt with 0.001 Ω resolution, 2000 W of rated measuring power and immunity to 50 Hz power-frequency interference up to 50 V, supplied from AC 220 V 10 A. The HF-GT-205 digital equipotential bonding tester, HF-GT-211 ground bond tester, HF-GT-212 ground grid tester and HF-GT-213 grounding down lead earth continuity tester complete the group.
  • Fault location and insulation — the HF-GT-214 grounding wire resistance tester, the HF-GT-217 insulation resistance tester and two DC ground fault locators (HF-GT-215 and HF-GT-220).
  • Measurement support — the HF-GT-204 non-contact electrostatic voltmeter reads 0 to ±200 kV with automatic ranging at better than ±10 % and an input impedance above 1016 Ω; also the HF-GT-206 SPD tester, the HF-GT-207 and HF-GT-208 frequency selective voltmeter and multimeter, a medical-grade earth tester, a variable-frequency grid tester and the HF-GT-221 ground resistance tester calibrator.

How to choose a grounding system tester

Start from the electrode layout: a single rod or mast can be measured with a clamp or a three-wire meter, while a grid with dozens of down leads needs the fall-of-potential method with enough output power and interference rejection. Then confirm the resistance you must resolve (0.01 Ω on a grid against whole ohms on a small electrode), whether soil resistivity and step or contact voltage are in the test schedule, and how readings are recorded.
