Overview

Insulators are critical components in power grids, and their quality directly affects grid safe operation. After being energized, field insulators endure long-term mechanical and electrical loads, together with harsh operating conditions such as lightning strikes, sunlight and rain. Their electrical and mechanical performance may degrade. When deterioration reaches a certain level, zero-value insulators appear. Their insulation capability fails to meet operational requirements, posing a direct threat to power system safety.
Measuring the insulation resistance of insulator strings effectively evaluates the insulation condition of each insulator, detects hidden internal faults, and improves the reliability of power grid operation.

Instrument Introduction

Our self-developed tester can accurately and quantitatively measure the resistance of every single insulator without power outage. It can distinguish insulators with leakage current yet not fully punctured (in critical damage state). Measurement data can be recorded, stored and displayed in real time, and an automatic alarm will trigger for low-resistance insulators.
HF-LT-304 Wireless Live Insulator Resistance Tester features high measurement accuracy, wide measuring range, easy portability and simple operation. It is ideal for fast and precise resistance testing of disc suspension insulators in service.

Working Principle

During testing, the transmitting unit is firmly mounted on an insulated hot stick. The tip of the hot stick contacts the tested insulator to collect insulation resistance signals. Analog signals are converted into digital signals and transmitted to the handheld receiver via radio frequency. The receiver processes the digital signals and displays real-time results on screen.

Judgment Criteria

  1. Voltage level 500kV and above: Insulators with resistance below 500 MΩ are defined as deteriorated insulators.
  2. Voltage level below 500kV: Insulators with resistance below 300 MΩ are defined as deteriorated insulators.
