Technical Specifications
- Output Voltage: 0 ~ 1200 V adjustable
- Capacitance: 10 μF
- Operation Interval: 1 ~ 2 seconds per cycle
- Power Supply: 8 × 1.5 V DC dry batteries
- LCD Operating Voltage: 9 V
- Overall Dimension: 200 × 115 × 45 mm
Operating Instructions
- Insert the grounding wire into the bottom socket before use.
- The power switch is installed between the main body and the head. Rotate it 90° in any direction; a clicking sound indicates power-on, and reverse rotation turns the power off.
- The green indicator light lights up after power-on. Once the red light illuminates (after roughly 3~5 seconds), extend the telescopic conductive rod (adjustable length before powering on according to the installation height of the counter) to perform tests on the lightning counter.Repeated tests are available without cutting off power supply. Make sure the conductive rod is separated from the tested counter before each new charging cycle.

FAQ:Portable Surge Counter Tester
Q1: What is a Portable Surge Counter Tester used for?
A: It is a portable high-voltage testing instrument specially designed to calibrate lightning surge counters fitted on ZnO surge arresters. It generates standard 8/20μs impulse current to trigger the counter, verifying whether the counter can accurately record lightning strike times, so as to eliminate counter stuck, failure, inaccurate counting faults in power substations, transmission & distribution lines.
Q2: What standard impulse waveform does this tester adopt?
A: Strictly complies with IEC & domestic power preventive test standards, output standard 8/20μs lightning impulse current waveform, adjustable current amplitude (50A~500A optional), fully consistent with actual lightning surge characteristics on power grids, ensuring reliable verification results.
Q3: Which types of surge counters can this device test?
A: Compatible with all mainstream arrester discharge counters: JS8, JS9, JSY, FCQ series mechanical counters, digital lightning counters widely used in 10kV~500kV power system arresters at home and abroad.
Q4: What is the standard field testing procedure?
- Record the initial reading of the surge counter before test;
- Firmly connect tester output terminals to counter terminals, reliable grounding is mandatory;
- Trigger impulse discharge 3~5 times continuously;
- Check if the counter number increases by 1 digit each discharge;
- After test, perform automatic residual voltage discharge before disconnecting wiring to guarantee safety.
Q5: Counter does not jump after applying impulse current, what are the causes?
- Poor wiring or loose grounding wire;
- Tester battery insufficient / low output current gear selected;
- Internal mechanical jamming, dampness or component damage inside the surge counter itself;
- Severe on-site electromagnetic interference affecting triggering effect.
Q6: Is it allowed to conduct continuous rapid repeated tests?
A: Short-cycle repeated tests are supported (1~2s interval per shot). But do not trigger more than 20 consecutive discharges without interval, to avoid excessive heating of internal capacitance components and shorten service life.
Q7: Power supply mode & battery endurance?
A: Built-in high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery. Fully charged supports 300+ effective discharge tests. No external AC power required for field outdoor work; AC 220V charger is equipped for indoor charging抖音百科.
Q8: How about portability parameters?
A: Compact handheld design, total weight ≤6kg, small volume, equipped with shockproof carrying case. Suitable for high-altitude arrester checking, narrow cabinet space, outdoor line patrol and mobile field maintenance scenarios.
Q9: Does it have adjustable output current gears?
A: Yes, equipped with Low / Medium / High three current output gears. Adjust gears according to different counter action threshold requirements to realize stable triggering without damaging counter internal parts武汉鄂电电….
Q10: Key safety precautions during testing?
- Ground cable must be connected reliably before any high-voltage output;
- Do not touch test leads and metal terminals during discharging;
- After testing, wait for automatic residual voltage discharge completely before dismantling wires;
- Prohibited use in rainy, humid and severe thunderstorm environments.
Q11: Will the impulse current damage the surge counter?
A: The output impulse parameters are designed according to counter rated action requirements, no overvoltage/overcurrent impact. Standard calibration tests will not cause any damage to qualified counters.
Q12: How often should the tester be calibrated?
A: Recommended annual calibration by official metrology institute, to ensure output impulse current accuracy meets testing standards. Calibration certificate can be provided for power system acceptance audit.
Q13: How to maintain the built-in lithium battery?
A: Charge the battery once every 1~2 months when the instrument is idle for a long time to prevent over-discharge damage; stop testing immediately once low-battery indicator lights up.
Q14: What is included in the standard packing list?
A: Main tester ×1, insulated test cables ×1 set, dedicated lithium battery charger, shockproof aluminum carry case, operation manual, calibration certificate, product warranty card.
Q15: Warranty period?
A: 2-year global warranty for the main unit; lifelong paid technical support and spare parts supply.
Q16: Can this tester check the overall health of surge arresters?
A: It only verifies the counting function of the discharge counter. To comprehensively evaluate arrester performance, you need to cooperate with MOA leakage current tester, insulation resistance tester and other equipment for integrated detection.
