Overview of Power Frequency Overvoltage Tester

The Power Frequency Overvoltage Test is a conventional insulation verification test for high-voltage power equipment. Under rated industrial frequency, specified overvoltage is applied to equipment insulation for a prescribed duration. It checks whether insulation can resist transient power frequency overvoltages in actual operation, discovers internal insulation defects, and confirms the safety and reliability of transformers, switch cabinets, cables and other power facilities.

Product Features

  1. An industrial touch screen displays voltage, current, time, operating status and body parameters with clear and intuitive readings.
  2. Chinese user interface enables easy operation, applicable to various working scenarios.
  3. Output voltage can be directly set via touch buttons; one-key start triggers fully automatic testing procedure.
  4. Real-time prominent voltage display on the screen throughout the test to remind operators of safety precautions.
  5. Built-in automatic timing function: the device starts timing once voltage rises to the preset value, and automatically drops voltage to zero upon timeout.
  6. Manual control mode: similar to traditional electric voltage rise/fall operation. Voltage adjustment is realized via touch buttons; upper/lower limits are automatically judged with overvoltage protection equipped.
  7. Intelligent boosting speed control: the boosting rate slows down automatically when voltage reaches 80% of target value, and decreases further at 90% target voltage.

Operation Instructions for Power Frequency Overvoltage Tester

Pre-Test Preparation & Wiring

  1. Firmly connect the equipment protective ground wire to reliable earth ground to guarantee personal and device safety.
  2. Connect power input cable, high-voltage output cable between the tester and the tested electrical product correctly, double-check all wiring for looseness or wrong connection.
  3. Confirm the built-in voltage regulator is fully reset to zero position before powering on the machine.

Power On & Parameter Setting

  1. Switch on the main power supply; the industrial touch screen lights up and enters standby interface.
  2. Tap the touch panel to set target test voltage, withstand timing duration, overvoltage & overcurrent protection thresholds as required by test standards.
  3. Choose operation mode: Automatic Mode or Manual Mode.

Automatic Test Operation (Mainly Used)

  1. After parameter confirmation, tap the One-Click Start button to launch the test.
  2. The device boosts voltage intelligently: speed slows down automatically at 80% target voltage, and further decreases when reaching 90% target voltage to avoid insulation breakdown caused by abrupt voltage rise.
  3. Once voltage hits the preset value, automatic timing starts immediately; real-time voltage value is displayed prominently on the screen all the time.
  4. When the set holding time expires, the tester automatically drops voltage back to zero, cuts off high-voltage output and finishes the test. Test data can be saved and queried later.

 Manual Test Operation

  1. Select Manual Mode on the touch screen. Adjust rising or falling voltage via touch buttons manually.
  2. The system automatically judges upper and lower voltage limits and activates overvoltage protection to prevent overshoot.
  3. Users control the whole boosting, holding and step-down process manually according to on-site test demands.

Post-Test Steps

  1. After voltage returns to zero completely, turn off the main power switch.
  2. Discharge residual electric charge on the tested device with a discharge rod.
  3. Disconnect all connecting cables, arrange and store accessories properly.

Emergency Handling

Press the Emergency Stop button instantly once insulation breakdown, spark flashover, abnormal noise, smoke or sharp current surge occurs during testing. The tester will rapidly cut off high voltage and reset voltage to zero for safety protection.

FAQ – Power Frequency Overvoltage Tester

Q1: What is the main purpose of the Power Frequency Overvoltage Tester?

A1: It is used to perform power frequency overvoltage withstand tests on high-voltage electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgears and cables. It verifies insulation strength, detects hidden defects and ensures safe operation of power equipment.

Q2: What working modes does the tester support?

A2: It supports two working modes: automatic mode and manual mode. The automatic mode realizes one-key test and zero-voltage return. The manual mode allows flexible voltage rise and fall with upper and lower limit protection.

Q3: Why does the voltage boosting speed slow down automatically?

A3: The device adopts intelligent speed control. The boosting speed decreases at 80% and 90% of the target voltage to avoid sudden voltage impact and prevent accidental insulation breakdown, ensuring stable and accurate test results.

Q4: Does the equipment support automatic timing and reset?

A4: Yes. When the output voltage reaches the preset value, the system starts timing automatically. After the set time is completed, the tester automatically drops the voltage back to zero and completes the test.

Q5: What is the measurement accuracy of the instrument?

A5: Both voltage and current measurement accuracy reach ±0.5%FS ±3 digits, which meets standard power frequency withstand test requirements for industrial and power industry inspection.

Q6: What is the operating environment requirement?

A6: The tester works stably at ambient temperature of 0~50℃ and relative humidity ≤85%RH (non-condensing). It is suitable for laboratory and on-site power inspection.

Q7: Is overvoltage protection available during operation?

A7: Yes. The system is equipped with built-in overvoltage protection and limit judgment functions in both automatic and manual modes to prevent equipment damage and ensure operator safety.

Q8: Can the tester work for a long time?

A8: The standard timing range is 0~9999 seconds. Long-duration continuous operation is supported under special test modes to meet different testing standards.
