The SF6 Gas Vacuum Pump is indispensable auxiliary equipment dedicated to the maintenance of sulfur hexafluoride high-voltage electrical devices such as GIS cabinets and circuit breakers in power substations.
Equipped with stable pumping performance, it rapidly evacuates air, moisture and impurities inside sealed SF6 equipment to create a high-vacuum environment prior to SF6 gas filling, which avoids insulation defects caused by mixed water vapor and air. Meanwhile, it cooperates with SF6 recovery devices to realize cyclic collection and reuse of expensive SF6 gas, effectively cutting operating costs. Compact in structure, reliable in operation and adaptable to harsh on-site working conditions, it has become standard matching equipment for power system daily overhaul and gas handling work.

Operating Steps for SF6 Gas Vacuum Pump
Step 1: Pre-operation Inspection
- Place the hand-push mobile unit on flat, solid ground and lock the moving wheels.
- Check oil level of the fore pump and Roots pump, confirm no oil leakage; verify all connecting pipelines, valves and seals are intact.
- Confirm power supply is standard 3-phase 5-wire 380V, connect the power cable correctly.
Step 2: Pipeline Connection
Connect one end of the vacuum hose to the equipment port of GIS/circuit breaker, and the other end tightly to the air extraction port of the vacuum pump set; close all bypass valves to ensure the whole pipeline is airtight without leakage.
Step 3: Power On & System Check
Switch on the main power. The electrical system will automatically identify three-phase power sequence; adjust manually if phase sequence is wrong. Phase-loss protection is ready to avoid abnormal pump rotation.
Step 4: Start Vacuum Pumping
- First start the fore vacuum pump to pre-evacuate the cavity inside electrical equipment.
- When internal pressure drops to the set threshold, the Roots pump will automatically engage and run in series with the fore pump to rapidly pull high vacuum.
- Keep pumping until the system reaches the required vacuum degree (down to ≤0.06Pa).
Step 5: Stop Pumping & Isolate Pipeline
- Close the valve between the vacuum pump and SF6 equipment first to prevent air backflow.
- Cut off power supply; the power-failure protection function will prevent pump oil from flowing backward into the electrical apparatus.
Step 6: Post-work Maintenance
Disassemble the connecting pipes, clean pipeline dust and moisture; check pump oil condition, store the whole device in dry and ventilated environment.
FAQ: SF6 Gas Vacuum Pumping & Refilling Device
Q1: What is this equipment mainly used for?
A: It is specially designed for power stations, substation overhaul and SF6 switch manufacturers. It is used for vacuum pumping before SF6 gas filling, as well as gas recovery and refilling for GIS, circuit breakers and other SF6 high-voltage equipment during installation, commissioning and maintenance. It can also complete vacuum pumping and gas charging work for other equipment.
Q2: What structure and mobile form does the machine adopt?
A: It is an air-cooled hand-push mobile integrated unit, equipped with walking wheels, easy to transfer between different overhaul sites in substations.
Q3: What is the pumping speed and ultimate vacuum performance?
A: The primary pumping speed is 300m³/h (50Hz). The fore pump ultimate vacuum is 10 Pa, and the matched Roots pump can reach an ultimate vacuum ≤0.06 Pa, which fully meets the high vacuum requirements of SF6 electrical appliances.
Q4: How are the two pumps (fore pump + Roots pump) operated?
A: Start the fore vacuum pump first for pre-pumping. When the system pressure drops to the preset value, the Roots pump will automatically start and run in series with the fore pump to quickly achieve high vacuum. No manual switching is needed.
Q5: What protections does the electrical system have?
- Automatic three-phase power identification + manual phase adjustment function;
- Phase loss protection: prevents pump reverse rotation and no-phase operation of main units;
- Power failure protection: effectively avoids vacuum pump oil backflow into SF6 equipment after sudden power cut.
Q6: What are the power parameters of the whole set?
A: Power supply: 3-phase 5-wire 380V AC. Fore pump power: 5.5kW, Roots pump power: 3.7kW, total overall power ≤10kW.
Q7: Is the machine noisy during operation?
A: The operating noise is controlled within ≤60dB(A), low noise design, will not cause excessive noise interference for on-site staff.
Q8: What is the applicable working ambient temperature?
A: Suitable environment temperature range: 10℃ ~ 40℃, adapting to most indoor and outdoor substation maintenance environments.
Q9: What is the total weight of the equipment?
A: The net weight of the whole machine is 300kg, sturdy and stable during pumping operation without shaking.
Q10: What should I do first before shutting down the pump?
A: You must close the valve between the vacuum pump and SF6 electrical equipment firstly to block the pipeline, then cut off the power supply, to prevent air backflow and oil reflux.
Q11: Can this device only be used for SF6 gas?
A: No. Besides SF6 vacuum pumping and refilling, it can also undertake vacuum extraction and gas filling work for other gas containers as general vacuum equipment.
